CHRISTOPHANY

A fragment from Raimon Panikkar’s diaries, October, 1997:——

“I have practically finished the book about you, ‘Lord' Jesus Christ, the book of my love and my life – which has all been well hidden and few have understood.”[1]

This confession is poignant. It expresses my own sense of love for Christ which has been “well hidden” and which few have understood.

In the following prose/poem I attempt to capture what this “Christophany” means to me… not an exclusive claim to truth but a living symbol, penetrating into every manifestation of the human spirit, discovered in every authentic{religious] expression.[2]

Christophany

a shuddering, shattering, shimmering explosion of galaxy
 creating, star-throwing, gratuitous Love
shining in death defeating, body rising
intensity of sheer tender, vulnerable willingness
to surrender every defense to Divine Fire.

Christophany

 showing forth,
 manifesting,

   Divine-Cosmic-Human
 pure trinitarian relation

Jesus is Christophany,
 not exclusively but completely
 in his capacity for Love~
to BE Light.

Such revelation is now ours to embody~
  human-cosmic-divine journey into Christ,

Symbol of Reality
(seen only with the third eye)
incarnating love and light.

We have a way to go on this temporal plane.
But, at the Center,
where time and eternity meet,
we have everything we need for the journey.
